What are LoL Champion Mastery Points and Why Do They Matter?

Champion Mastery Points (MP) in League of Legends track your dedication and skill with individual champions. Every time you play a game with a specific champion, you earn MP based on your performance, the game’s outcome, and its duration. Accumulating enough MP unlocks Mastery Levels, which come with unique in-game rewards like emotes, loading screen borders, and profile flair, showcasing your expertise to other players.

Gaining mastery isn’t just about showing off; it encourages players to truly learn a champion’s kit, understand their matchups, and master their role within the team. Our LoL Mastery Points Calculator helps you bridge the gap between your current MP and your next mastery goal, providing a clear path to achieving that coveted Mastery Level 7.

How is LoL Champion Mastery Points Calculated After Each Game?

Understanding how Champion Mastery Points (MP) are awarded is key to efficiently leveling up your champions. After every game, the MP you gain is determined by several crucial factors. It’s not just about winning; your individual performance plays a significant role.

LoL Mastery Points Gain Per Game: Breaking Down the Factors

Your MP gain is primarily influenced by these elements:

  • Game Length: Longer games generally yield more MP. A 40-minute match will inherently give more points than a 20-minute one, assuming similar performance.
  • Game Outcome (Win/Loss): Winning a game provides a substantial bonus to your MP gain. While you still get points for a loss, a victory significantly accelerates your progress.
  • Champion Grade (Performance): This is perhaps the most impactful factor. At the end of each game, you receive a grade (from D- to S+) based on your performance relative to other players on that champion in that role. Higher grades (A, S, S+) result in significantly more MP. Factors contributing to your grade include Kills, Deaths, Assists, Creep Score (CS), vision score, damage dealt, healing, and objective participation.
  • Game Mode: Different game modes have varying MP multipliers. Summoner’s Rift (Normal/Ranked) typically offers the highest potential MP. ARAM, while quicker, usually yields less MP per game due to its shorter duration and different playstyle. Co-op vs. AI games grant significantly less MP compared to PvP modes.
  • Premade Bonus: Playing with friends in a premade group can sometimes offer a small bonus to your MP gain, encouraging team play.

The champion grade (S+, A-, etc.) is a critical multiplier for your Mastery Point gain. Achieving a higher grade means you significantly out-performed the average player on that champion, rewarding you with more MP.

Best Strategies to Farm LoL Champion Mastery Points Fast

Reaching Mastery Level 7 on your favorite champions is a rewarding goal for many League of Legends players. While simply playing games will eventually get you there, employing smart strategies can significantly speed up your progress. Here are the most efficient ways to farm Champion Mastery Points:

Fastest Way to Get Mastery 7 LoL: Optimize Your Gameplay

Focus on maximizing your MP gain in every match. This means not just winning, but winning decisively and performing exceptionally well.

  • Aim for High Grades (S- / S / S+): This is by far the most crucial factor. Prioritize strong KDA (Kills, Deaths, Assists), high Creep Score (CS), good vision score, significant damage dealt (to champions and objectives), and overall objective participation. Play safe to minimize deaths.
  • Play Longer Games: As MP gain scales with game duration, longer Summoner’s Rift matches (25+ minutes) often yield more points than quick surrenders or very short ARAMs, assuming decent performance.
  • Focus on Summoner’s Rift: While ARAM can be fun and fast, Summoner’s Rift generally offers the highest MP potential per game, especially with high grades. If you’re serious about farming MP, stick to SR.
  • Play with Friends (Premade Bonus): Queueing with friends can not only make the game more enjoyable but also provide a small MP bonus, encouraging teamwork and better coordination for wins.
  • Farm Efficiently: Don’t neglect CS. High CS for your role is a key component of your post-game grade. For Junglers, a good jungle clear and objective control are paramount.
  • Push Objectives: Taking towers, dragons, and Baron contributes significantly to your team’s victory and your personal grade.
